This weekend was epic for a couple reasons!
1. We took our first little road trip as a gigantic group of 8
2. The Mister and I went to our first 'concert'
My step dad Rich was heading to Boston for a few weeks and we keep missing days to get out there and visit so we decided to just DO IT. We packed up all the kids, we took off Friday after school was out and we were off. With of course a few tantrums, but kids and grownups. Yes. We still have tantrums to.
We had to take two cars...err trucks...and we each were pretty sane by the end of the driving all things considered...like Jared's addiction to switching lanes even though we all end up at the same spot eventually!!!! When we got to Rich's house (and after I oo'd and ahh'd over Sherrie's engagement ring) we realized they are the perfect visiting spot because of a few reasons...
1. They have MORE than enough parking spaces for our two extra cars.
2. They have a downstairs which shelters us from the noise of the kids
3. They had enough BEDS to have everyone sleep nicely even with Amy also being there!
Really, I see us making plenty more trips out there. We had a blast. We got there a little later on Friday than expected so the kids watched Frozen, the grownups did some chatting and then we all passed out. Not only did we have a long drive but Rich and Sherrie had an insanely busy whole last month with the end of school and all. Sherrie is a teacher. Saturday we woke up, had some really yummy (gross) gluten free pancakes and we all got suited up in our swimming attire. We hit the dollar store for some goggles, water guns and floaties and off to the community swim center we went.
It has to be said that Jared and I have yet to take the kids to anything like this in our neck of the woods because its expensive. Like 9 bucks a person and for 8 people it adds up. Makes things so much less fun to do when you are pinching pennies! Now, when we showed up to Carson and we entered this lovely place with 8 of us and only paid 17.50. I was floored. It made my day.
You know you are an adult with 6 kids when paying $17.50 for ANYTHING makes you happy.
No.
Serious.
I couldn't get over it and I told everyone that would listen about the great deal we scored. Of course. Rich thought I was insane and almost passed out when we told him how much we would have paid in our hometown. His response was...this place would be empty if they charged that much. Haha.
Needless to say we spent nearly 3 hours there, we jumped off diving boards, slid down waterslides, climbed rock walls, swam, and enjoyed eachothers company. It was truly a great time. I didn't get more than 1 pic and a quick IG video but that's okay...just means we were too caught up in the moment. The downside to the day was that Rich's phone got misplaced in another parties backpack and he is out a phone now. I keep hoping a good Samaritan will return it, but so far, no luck :(
After swimming we all went home, showered and rested for a minute (or half a minute) and then off to dinner we went to begin the birthday week celebrations for me! Yay!!!!We hit up this buffet that seriously had all you could ever want in a buffet. Biggest giggle was that Alyssa wanted a huge piece of steak and that Tyler and Richie ate a little more than their tummies could handle. Kids. Tell them 'all they can eat' and that off switch just stops working! I think everyone was good until we released them to the dessert bar! Sugar!!! We spent the evening, chatting, grubbing down and laughing our crew plus Rich, Sherrie, Courtney, Elliott my sister Amy and Little Bro Richie. Such a great time! Of all the people in my life I am so grateful for Rich because he has always been a pretty solid rock since my early teen years. I am glad that my kids are really close to him as well.
We did have to leave early Sunday (like super early) because Jared and I don't know how to relax and we had to get back to attend BottleRock in Napa. Its a huge concert with a bunch of bands and this year was like a throwback but we went on the Country day and got to see one of my favorites...Eric Church. We also saw LL Cool J, James Otto and a local band but Eric Church was most def the highlight! We took Carina because he dad got her a ticket for graduation and I got an extra ticket so that she didn't have to hang with us old folks if she didn't wanna and they got to jump from show to show and they added The Fray to their viewing! Lucky girl! I had a great time, we went with great friends and honestly, to make some more memories is just a great start to the rest of my birthday week.
Yes. Week.
